A vesta case in simple terms is a matchbox. Most commonly made pocket sized in metal they can be found in a very wide range of designs often reflecting the period of their manufacture. Some vesta cases are also referred to as a 'go-to-bed' because they possess a small holder big enough for one match to be lit and placed in it to give sufficient light to get into bed before it goes out.
